I've (and I think [livejournal.com profile] ghoti has also) been searching for a non Nestle made version of condensed milk. I'm having to concede defeat with googling/looking at supermarket shelves, so I'm wondering whether to have a go at making a vegan condensed milk substitute. Has anyone ever made something like that? How did it compare with the 'real thing' in terms of taste/consistency etc?

Anyway, now for the important question - how do you make porridge?

I've tried all kinds of methods and can't seem to get my porridge the way it tastes at camp having been cooked over an open fire. Yesterday morning's attempt turned out so sticky I started to gag on it.

Incidentally, I bought a carton of Rice Dream intending to use it as a milk substitute and I don't like it - any ideas what I could do with it to make it palatable? It affects the taste of coffee rather dramatically.
