Poor Dr Reid
Don't you just love our Judges. Dr Reid 'reminds them of existing guidance about not sending people to prison who aren't dangerous' and the Judges respond by punishing non-dangerous people with community sentences, while carefully selecting non-dangerous people who will make the headlines as being 'deserving of prison'.
I don't think someone who has been convicted of looking at child pornography on the internet is inherently someone who poses a danger to real, live children. Yet he makes the headlines as a 'paedophile'. Nothing bad has really happened to anyone, but poor Dr Reid is getting bad press coverage because he tried to interfere with the judiciary. He's one of the Labour ministers I've got a bit of time for, because he's generally competent. He's just been given a poisioned chalice and is having to run with the Home Office as it is.
