Books/music/$Stuff

I've been meaning to write this entry since June and kept forgetting about it. Now that I've theoretically got some free time, I'd like people to recommend books I should read, music I should listen to and other stuff I should do/see/hear/watch etc.

My current list of book recommendations is:

Tender is the Night - Fitzgerald
Before Women had Wings - Connie May Fowler
The World according to Garp
The Red Hourglass: Lives of the Predators - Gordon Grice
A Stranger in a Strang Land - Heimlein
East of Eden - Steinbeck

Highly recommend 'The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood'

Chris Moore's Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Friend

Against a Dark Background, Iain M. Banks
Snow Crash, Neal Stephenson
A Brave New World, Aldous Huxley

(I will say that although most SF fans seem to adore the Heinlein in your list, I personally thought it was something of a pile of pants! I read the unabridged version, which is the one that most commonly is found these days -- if ever a manuscript needed some serious editing, that was it)

Which books that you've read have you enjoyed the most? I always recommend on the basis of what I think people would enjoy.
