Borders!

Last night lots and lots and lots of people came to Borders - this is the first time that's happened for a number of months and I promised a name check.

I arrived to meet [livejournal.com profile] arkady, [livejournal.com profile] compilerbitch and [livejournal.com profile] livredor. We were joined (and I'm going to get the order wrong) by [livejournal.com profile] neonchameleon, [livejournal.com profile] midnightmelody, [livejournal.com profile] topbit, [livejournal.com profile] helensaysping [livejournal.com profile] fluffymark, [livejournal.com profile] reddragdiva, [livejournal.com profile] lethargic_man, [livejournal.com profile] ewtikins, [livejournal.com profile] doseybat & [livejournal.com profile] ksta. [livejournal.com profile] hairyears came and waved at us from a distance, but didn't stay.

It was really good to see people I don't see very often and lovely to meet [livejournal.com profile] ksta. Lots of lovely conversation. Xenu. Must go and look at Wikipedia. Nine of us ([livejournal.com profile] compilerbitch, [livejournal.com profile] livredor, [livejournal.com profile] neonchameleon, [livejournal.com profile] midnightmelody, [livejournal.com profile] fluffymark, [livejournal.com profile] lethargic_man, [livejournal.com profile] ewtikins, [livejournal.com profile] doseybat and me) went to Wagamamas for food. I left them to go on and meet someone elsewhere so I've no idea how the evening actually ended, but everyone seemed to be having a good time when I left them.

For reference, Borders is open invitation if you happen to be reading this or know someone else who comes and are in London on a Tuesday evening. However, there are at least two people who attend regularly who at various times do not want to deal with crowds of people they don't know/crowds of people at all. My compromise is that I will try to let them know when I'm expecting new people or people who don't come very often so that they can then decide whether they are feeling up to dealing with crowds on a particular evening. I can't do this if I don't know that people are coming. So, if you're coming/thinking about coming please let me know - I love getting to meet new people and seeing people I don't see very often, so please don't take this as meaning anything other than what I've actually said. You are very welcome to come, but I'd like to be able to warn the people who don't necessarily like crowds in advance.

Xenu.

When you've read that, check out this. But only after you've read the above.

(Both are entirely worksafe, unless laughing out loud is not worksafe.)

I would have dealt with it better if I weren't still getting over the previous evening's incident. But yes, it's only common courtesy for would-be Borders-goers to actually announce their intention to show, if only so we can try and make sure there are enough tables and chairs.

It didn't help though that there were a couple of people there that I felt very uncomfortable with, and to be honest if I'd known they were coming I wouldn't have bothered.

I've now set up a community which might help organising things in futue: [livejournal.com profile] tuesday_borders. I've set you as one of the maintainers; membership is initially moderated but posting isn't. Maybe this will make organising stuff easier - means we can take a vote online as to where we prefer to eat in advance for instance, and we can do a rollcall of who's intending to come.

Apologies, I was entertaining an elderly Irish gentleman of leisure.

We had arranged to meet in Borders, and I had hoped there would be time to take at least a coffee with you.

Thank you, I hadn't realised that. I will let you know in future.
