They'll be sorry

Which part of 'Do not communicate with me by text message' is it so hard to understand?

*waves* DPA at Orange - actually the DPA is sufficiently meaty to use for hitting people over the head.....

Are you sure it isn't part of your contract with them to provide network service? (Or are they not your provider?)

Erm, which part of the DPA are you relying on? It relates to sharing information. Since they're providing your number, they're not sharing it, they know it as part of the process of providing you with a service.

That said, I'm on Orange, and I've never had a text message from them other than the necessary ones which flash update the sim.

I suppose there is that bit about using it only for the purpose it was gathered, yes.

Is it really worth getting worked up about? I get about one every month from Vodafone - it's really not that traumatic to just delete it. Unless, of course, you're getting lots more than that.

I really hate getting those smses from Orange. If you have any luck getting them to stop, do let me know. :\

I had a spell when BT Cellnet decided to suddenly resurrect an email to sms gateway for my phone without warning and bombard me with revolting texts at 2am.

Even more annoying that I was with Vodafone at that point.

Even more even more annoying was that they denied the existence of this email address or any knowledge of my phone number.

Anyway, the end of the tale is basically that I've found OFTEL very helpful in prodding telecoms companies into behaving themselves even when it wasn't technically in violation of their rules. Have you tried getting in touch with them?

It only took one letter and 48 hours later BT were phoning me up all apologetic at being completely useless and promising to have it fixed by the end of the day.
