Public Service Announcements

1, Everyone knows you can claim a refund if your tube journey is delayed by more than 15 minutes - what I didn't know until this morning, until I picked up a claim form, is that you can claim the refunds online - see https://www.tfl.gov.uk/tube/contacts/refunds.asp Edit See [livejournal.com profile] reddragdiva's comment below.

2, If you are on a 'low' income, you should claim for help with NHS costs using an HC1. These can be obtained from GPs' surgeries/dentists/opticians etc or by contacting the Prescription Pricing Authority - see http://www.ppa.org.uk/ppa/low_income.htm and indeed, it looks like you can now request an HC1 online using (http://www.ppa.org.uk/ppa/HC1_form.htm) that form. If you have to pay NHS costs whilst waiting for a claim then ask for a receipt at the time you pay them so you can claim the costs back. Given that NHS charges for dentistry can be up to £378 for a course of treatment it can be worthwhile claiming even if you don't think your income is particularly low ie. my income exceeds my 'requirements' by £44.08/week so I have to pay up to £132.24 towards dental treatment (seems to be that you're expected to use three weeks worth of excess income towards dental treatment/fabric support/wigs). £132 is a lot better than £378!

3, If you have an egg card (http://www.egg.com) it looks like they've ended the automatic 0.5% cashback on all purchases unless you get an egg card (blue). The cashback is the entire reason I use a credit card - so I'm about to send off for my blue egg card:-)
