Dreams - my ideal home

Seeing [livejournal.com profile] catsgomiaow's post about communes has reminded me of something I've been wanting to post - a description of my ideal home.

Cutting for utter irrelevance/lack of importance

I'd like to buy some land and build my own house.

I'd like lots of storage space - so there will be both a basement and a loft designed for storing things making good use of the space.

The whole house will be as energy efficient as possible (including solar panels so I can generate my own electricity) - this is partly for environmental reasons & partly to reduce my electricity bills. All the rooms will have a sensible number of sockets.

The house will also be water efficient - again partly for environmental reasons and partly to reduce my water bills.

The heating will be gas powered & the radiators will not be put under windows.

There will be wireless broadband throughout (or whatever the recommended, but stable, method of internet connection is recommended to me by my geeky friends at the time).

The house will be intended to age with me ie. it will be possible to fit a stairlift should I ever become incapable of climbing the stairs.

The kitchen will be large enough to contain a chest freezer. The hob will be gas powered. There will be lots of storage space. There will be Radio 4. There will be worktop space. There will be a separate room for the washing machine/ironing board etc.

There will be a living room containing sofas that convert to beds so I can have people to stay. There will be a craft room for knitting/sewing stuff. There will be dedicated space for Guide stuff. There will be another room containing wall to wall bookshelves & my desk and also to include any main desktop machine I have.

The house will be detatched (so I can have noisy parties if I want to). There will be a garden with enough space for camping & a patio for BBQs. It will be low maintenance. There will be a garden shed for gardening tools. I might have a small vegetable/herb garden (am really not convinced that the time I'd spend growing stuff would translate to saved money/better tasting food).

My bedroom will have a king sized bed + walk in wardrobe with plenty of space + a couple of chests of drawers. There will also be a telly and a radio, a large bedside cabinet and lots and lots of book shelves. Oh and a dressing table and a full length mirror (inside the wardrobe). There will be an ensuite containing a bath (yes, a bath, I understand showers use less water but baths +++) as well as a shower (the shower will have a glass/plastic door thing to prevent the water from splashing (not a shower curtain)). There will be a towel warmer & the water to the cold tap will be from the mains (not a storage tank).

There will be at least two spare bedrooms so I can invite people to stay - each with its own ensuite.

All ornaments will be inside cabinets to reduce dusting. No ornaments will ever be put on window sills. All windows will open enough to be used as fire escapes. There will be smoke detectors & carbon monoxide detectors throughout the house.

There will be an indoor swimming pool.

The downstairs space will be adaptable so I can use it for hosting large parties. There will also be a dinner table somewhere so I can have dinner parties.

The house will disappear magically when the Council Tax valuers come round doing valuations.

The house will always be within ten minutes walk of wherever I want to be next.

Edit More stuff:

There will be a garage for car storage & somewhere separate for storing DIY implements.

There will be wooden floors downstairs (with rugs in living areas) + proper carpets upstairs.

The windows will be double glazed.

The house will also be designed with security in mind ie. front/back/patio doors will conform to the relevant standards, there will be a spy hole to get a good look at visitors before letting them in. Am unsure as to whether I'd want a burglar alarm as such.

The house will be flood proof and mouse proof.

The fuse box will be located somewhere with decent lighting & the house will be wired sensibly.

All bathrooms will have storage space for items commonly used in bathrooms.
