Coffee in Borders week three
Lovely to see everyone again. (Oh, you want a name check.... right, we had
fluffymark,
hairyears,
mstevens,
neonchameleon,
nitoda and
wuluf).
I didn't go to the careers talk I was intending to go to, I decided I needed some comfort reading time and went and curled up in Borders children's section with some Tamora Pierce books....there's something relaxing and comforting in reading books like that, not sure I could explain it though. It's like reading Chalet School books (and yes, I did look for those but I couldn't find any). I kept wandering round checking that no one had arrived and at about 7.40pm I wandered over to find everyone was about.
I was feeling very tired - but had a good time - learnt lots about astrophysics and techniques for dealing with Jehovah's Witnesses. Mark, Nile and I left Borders at 9.40pm in frantic search of food - luckily we found an open Weatherspoons and all had something to eat there. It was practically midnight when I got home and even later by the time I finally got to sleep. I think if we have a food expedition next week, we'll have to leave earlier rather than that late, because I can't keep getting home so late on a Tuesday, I'm going to make myself ill. I feel walking zombieesque right now.
On unrelated matters - can anyone point me in the direction of indoor swimming pools in London, somewhere on a direct tube line between Vauxhall and Kensal Green (ie. going through Oxford Circus) (Alternatively, Waterloo would be OK, 'cos Vauxhall - Waterloo takes 3-4 minutes by train and the Bakerloo line goes through there). Open Guides didn't have anything, google wasn't very helpful and I don't know enough about the administrative boundaries within the capital that I can make effective use of the borough websites eg. I know Brent have pools but they aren't anywhere sensible, nor are the ones in Kensington & Chelsea and I don't know which other bodies cover the relevant bits of London, or how to find that out.
Oh and can someone tell me why my nectarines have been disappearing - on Friday I had three, on Monday I had two, when I looked today there was only one and I *know* I didn't eat them (mainly because eating them is a messy operation and I tend to remember doing it) - I can't believe anyone would steal one - but this seems to be what's happened, even though there are piles of much more useful things to steal round my desk (bits for Guide welcome packs, disposable barbecques etc).

techniques for dealing with Jehovah's Witnesses
Re: techniques for dealing with Jehovah's Witnesses
I personally go for the 'No, thank you' line - I find it very hard to be rude to strangers in person - I might flame them to pieces online, adopt my 'no one ever ignores me when I speak like this' tone on the phone, but in person I'm always polite - particularly when they have their children with them.
