Terribly British whinge

I can't control the temperature in my flat very easily. On Friday evening it was 17 degrees, yesterday it was 21 degrees. I suspect a major part of the reason I had such difficulty getting to sleep on Monday night was that I was too hot. I'm now tempted to try turning the remaining heaters off, but am loath to do it too soon in case it goes cold again.

I'm not saying 'I'll never live somewhere with storage heaters ever again', but certainly gas-powered central heating will get a higher spot in my list of things to consider before moving somewhere.

I know exactly what you mean. I have to let large amounts of heat out of the window fairly regularly. Quite daft.

Yeah, it's just balancing the cold and the hot days, and the relative economy of storage heaters vs fan heaters during the day.

Check the weather forecast? If it's going to be warm, don't turn on the storage heaters?

Yes. I lived in a student house with storage heaters and hated them. A friend has them now as we always die in their flat cos it's too damned hot.

What we did in my student house was got fan heater, so when the weather was like it is now, we turned the storage heaters off totally and used the fan heater when we wanted a room warm.

Fan heaters are about as efficient as storage heaters, just less 'safe' but if you're only using them when you're in the house it's okay and you'll definitely save leccy.

/me nods. We have a similar issue with fan heaters and indeed storage heaters. A useful trick is to put cups of warm water around the room or on top of storage heaters which will evaporate and increase the humidity...

You think you have trouble controlling your heating? While I was out of the house yesterday, my radiator fell off the wall.
