Condensed milk
I've (and I think
ghoti has also) been searching for a non Nestle made version of condensed milk. I'm having to concede defeat with googling/looking at supermarket shelves, so I'm wondering whether to have a go at making a vegan condensed milk substitute. Has anyone ever made something like that? How did it compare with the 'real thing' in terms of taste/consistency etc?

Sainsburys do their own version, though I've only been able to find the "half-fat" version in stores near me. The Co-op also does it's own version.
There's a Chinese brand, Panda, which is very good I find - if you like I'll have a look in some of the Chinese supermarkets around Soho; I could do with some more anyay. I like to eat it straight from the can as a dessert; it's also great for boiling in the tin to make into fudge!

If you find some then yes please I'll have a couple of tins, but don't go looking just for me - you've got enough on your plate atm!

It's not the same, but it made an entirely passable banoffee.
