Wind up radios
Sep. 27th, 2007 07:31 pmI intended to post this last weekend and forgot about amongst all the other stuff I've been doing.
The radio that has broken that I left with someone at the Pembury for possible repair was one I bought in the aftermath of 7th July 2005 for £10. It was intended to be my emergency radio, for use when there's no mains electricity. I want/need to replace it at some point. I want to replace it with something sturdier (the radio in question was never mistreated or thrown about - it lived on a table and occasionally got packed in a bag and carried places). There's no point having something intended for use as emergency equipment that's not sturdy enough to cope with the bashing about it might well get in an emergency.
So recommendations please for good emergency-use radios. Wind up preferable. Battery/solar powered also good. Mains power as an alternative power source isn't a bad idea. The Summit looks possible, but not sure I'd want something digital for emergency use as it uses so much power. The Eyemax is another possible, as is the Ranger.
Edit
The other job the radio has to perform is coming with me to hotels and thus being packed and carried about. It needs to have a headphone socket and to not be too heavy or too large.
