didn't get off to a good start. In the middle of the pile of my Christmas cards at my Mum's house was a demand for £191.76 by Westcot Credit Services for Gio Internet. I had a dial up contract with them from July 2002 - May/June 2003, which I cancelled, when I moved out, because neither my mother or sister use the internet enough that unmetered access is worthwhile.

I spoke to Westcot today (they were closed when I tried to phone on Friday) and they say that Gio Internet say that the contract didn't end until 23rd Nov '04 which is bollocks of the first order. They're going to send me what Gio Internet have sent them, and in the mean time I'm going to try and get hold of Gio. I have had no invoice or other request for payment. The service wasn't being used after June 2003. A nice little letter requesting the information they hold on me under the DPA and some explanation for these charges will be on its way on Wednesday (yes Wednesday, I want it to go by Special Delivery).

Yes, I'm pissed off - mainly because I'm scared I'm going to end up having to pay it to get them to go away. I don't know how I can prove conclusively that I cancelled the contract when I did - beyond showing that I stopped the payments and stopped using the service. I'm slightly less pissed off, now that I've seen http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/12/23/gio_confusion/ which seems to be saying that lots of former customers are receiving these demands.

Oh and http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ also appears to be aware of these events.

However, on to happier things - nice Christmas Day involving lots of presents and tasty food, then Boxing Day spent visiting my aunt, uncle and cousins. Have been watching lots of telly/new DVDs - my sister bought me Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban so I've finally had a chance to see it! Have also managed to knit a large portion of the other sleeve for the top I'm knitting. Went sales shopping today - I seem to have done fairly well with two pairs of trousers, a top and a pair of tights from M&S.

And back to very sad things - earthquake and huge waves:-( I can't comprehend 23 000 dead, and I share the anger at those who knew the waves were coming and 'didn't know which telephone number to call' to warn people in the relevant areas.....
